Boardwalk Cinnamon Almonds
Roasted in the big copper kettle we have not bought yet. You will smell them from the beach. That is the whole business plan.
Fresh roasted nuts on the Rehoboth Beach boardwalk. Coming soon since the day we moved to Delaware.
Open whenever the boardwalk is.
Closed when it rains, when it snows, and on any day the ocean looks better than the inside of a nut hut, so most of them.
Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk, Delaware. Exact spot to be determined.
Look for the red striped awning, the little chalkboard, and the smell of cinnamon almonds drifting over the sand.
This one started on the drive into Delaware. The idea was simple: a little hut on the Rehoboth boardwalk, a copper kettle, cinnamon in the air, and a name nobody could say with a straight face.
Years later the hut is still on the drawing board. The kettle is still in the catalog. The name, though, was perfect from the very first day, so it got the website first.
Nikki's Nutty Nut Hut. Say it out loud. Now say it to a stranger on the boardwalk. That is the marketing department.
Not yet. The website came first, which is how a surprising number of great Delaware businesses begin.
We would need nuts, a hut, and a shipping department. Then yes, anywhere in the lower 48 and most of Ocean City.
The hut accepts cashews, almonds, and sincere encouragement. Equity is paid out in cinnamon almonds at opening.
Everything else on the boardwalk was taken. Taffy, fries, pizza, ice cream, all spoken for. Nobody had claimed the nuts, which felt like a sign.
Founder, head roaster, and the reason the sign works. The hut was always going to be hers. The rest of us carry the bags.
